PrintAustin stands in solidarity with the Black community and those protesting the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and so many others before them.

We recognize our role as an arts service organization in combating systems that have historically excluded certain individuals and groups and have contributed to institutionalized racism in the art world. As we plan for our 2021 festival, we pledge to use our platforms to amplify the voices of artists and printmakers belonging to BIPOC communities, and commit to focus our resources toward achieving equity within our programs and exhibition opportunities. We know that a social media post is not a one and done thing, and there is real work ahead of us. Printmaking has always been, and continues to be, political. It has the power to uplift artists, organize communities, and vocalize injustices.

Super fantastic day seeing the UW Madison print facility with Emily Arthur @darkhorsepress and getting a tour of the Chazen by John Hitchcock @hybridpress . John picked up the guitar in his multi-media and interactive installation in the faculty exhibit. (Oh, and I now own a John Hitchcock 😍!) I let out a squeal when I saw @wolfbat at UW ❤️ I just wish I took more pics of the print labs and at least one of Emily 😵. What a delightful day! Join us in closing out PrintAustin 2020 this Saturday, February 15 from 12-1:30pm at @bigmediumaustin for a conversation with The Contemporary Print 2020 Juror Claudia Zapata. Moderated by Erin Keever, writer and Board Member of @sightlinesmag , this discussion will address the versatility of printmaking as well as some of the techniques and inspirations behind the prints and artist books featured in our juried exhibition.

Also joining us are printmakers and exhibiting artists @holy_press @darylhowardart and @bdjohnsonstudio who will speak to their work and how printmaking has impacted their careers.

We will also be announcing the winners of this year's The Contemporary Print Awards, including a $500 cash PrintAustin Award, the Blick Art Materials Award ($250 gift certificate courtesy of @blickartmaterials ), and a special $275 cash award in honor of the late printmaker and University of Texas at Austin Professor Robert Dale Anderson.
