Each year as part of our festival, we offer opportunities for artists to exhibit and discuss their work and printmaking processes. Below are our current open calls for PrintAustin 2021:
THE CONTEMPORARY PRINT: 5×5
PrintAustin is thrilled to announce the open call for its 8th annual juried international exhibition. As we are experiencing unprecedented times with Covid-19, we have decided to shift our typical format of The Contemporary Print to focus on a smaller group of selected artists. The Contemporary Print: 5×5 is presented in collaboration with Big Medium and will be juried by Delita Martin. Our exhibition will exist as a virtual platform, including in-depth Artist Features and online programming, from January 15 through February 19, 2021.
The Contemporary Print: 5×5 will feature five artists who will be selected based on their collective submission of five works. Works will be judged on traditional printmaking techniques and innovative approaches in contemporary printmaking. While non-traditional or digital output is accepted as a print element, submissions must utilize traditional print media as their primary technique. These include lithography, relief, intaglio, silk screen, photopolymer plate (i.e. solar plates), and monotype. Solely digital and photographic prints are not eligible. For questions regarding eligible media, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. To review the complete guidelines click here.
Deadline to apply is November 1, 2020 at 11:59pm (CST)
PrintAustin’s annual print fair is back, this time accessible from the comfort of your own studio! PrintEXPO 2021 is being reimagined as a virtual experience where artists will have the ability to showcase and sell their latest prints on our online platform. In addition, we’ll be publishing our first ever PrintEXPO Guide in collaboration with Almost Real Things to be distributed around Austin and available to ship worldwide. PrintEXPO 2021 will also include curated workshops, demos, and talks to showcase unique and unconventional forms of printmaking during a one-day conference on February 6, 2021. Vendor profiles and print sale capabilities will remain online through August 30, 2021.
For those interested in presenting in our virtual conference, you may submit a brief proposal via the form or write to us directly at email@example.com. If your proposal aligns with our goals for this iteration of PrintEXPO, we’ll contact you to further discuss your idea.
The number of PrintEXPO applications has grown dramatically over the past couple of years. To make participation more equitable and ensure artistic quality, we’re excited to have a Review Committee who will lend their expertise to select 60 participants. This call is open to artists, collectives, studios, and print shops worldwide. To take a peek at the developing online platform and link to the complete guidelines click here.
Deadline to apply is November 1, 2020 at 11:59pm (CST).
Inspired by the collaborative tradition and democratic nature of printmaking, our Trade Portfolio is an opportunity for artists to participate in a print exchange. Artists complete an edition of 12 prints and receive a portfolio of 10 collated prints from the other participants. PrintAustin retains 2 prints from each edition, which will be sold at our Drive-thru Fundraiser in benefit of our 2021 programming. The Trade Portfolio will be exhibited virtually on our website during PrintAustin 2021, along with each artist’s name and website. For more information, visit this link.
The deadline to enter is December 15, 2020 at 11:59pm (CST).
We are suspending these events for our 2021 programming and hope to have them back in the future.
