In the fall of 2017 Kevin Muñoz and Graham Franciose started collaborating on artwork in their Canopy studio in Austin, Texas. Shortly after, Graham uprooted from his Austin home and moved to the Pacific Northwest where he experienced loss and turmoil which was compounded by the vulnerability of being in a new location. Meanwhile, Kevin and his family had just purchased a home, deepening their roots in Austin.
Kevin and Graham picked up their collaborative works in the summer of 2018 when Kevin visited Graham in Seattle. Initially the collaboration was kept loose and structure-less, passing paintings back and forth over a kitchen table. Their work took shape as they began to explore concepts of loss, belonging, and “home”. Kevin and Graham explore these ideas through drawings, paintings and print-making.
While Kevin and Graham each came from opposite corners of the country with different backgrounds, they found common ground with their work and outlook on life.
