Landmarks.bolotin-jackleg2 (1)Landmarks, the public art program at UT, will host printmaker, filmmaker, and musician, Jay Bolotin. A reception will follow a performance and screening of his animated film made from 40 woodcuts.
Bolotin won Best Animation at the 2007 Santa Fe Film Festival for his woodcut motion picture “The Jackleg Testament Part I: The Story of Jack & Eve.” The film is featured in the Landmarks Video 2014-15 season.

Peregine Press: A Texas Legacy
Flatbed will exhibit over 40 landmark works from Peregrine. Peregrine Press operated from 1981 until 1991 in Dallas. Texas’s first fine art press, Peregrine actively collaborated with most of the major Texas artists at that time along with New York artist, Jean-Michel Basquait. Artists include John Alexander, Eric Avery, Ed Blackburn, Linda Blackbun, Otis Dozier, Joseph Glasco, Robert Levers, James Malone, Jack Mims, Dan Rizzie, Andrea Rosenberg, Al Souza, Frank X Tolbert2 and more.

Carlos Hernandez, “Pistol Packing Mama”

Modern Rocks presents Un-Modern Carlos
Houston-based serigraphy artist Carlos Hernandez has designed and printed gig posters for such artists as The Kills, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Santana, and more. Most recently, he was selected as the official poster artist to design the commemorative poster for the 2013 Austin City Limits Music Festival. Carlos is a founding partner of Burning Bones Press, a full-service printmaking studio located in the Houston Heights, and serves as an instructor of Screen Printing at Rice University, Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts.

“Changarrito” is an art vending cart, conceptualized by artist Maximo Gonzalez as an alternative to the official gallery selection presented by the Mexican cultural authorities.  Faithful to their original, informal spirit, Changarritos exist throughout the world, evolving as forums for the sale of original artwork to the general public and presentation of public programs, special curatorial projects, individual and collective exhibitions.    Since 2012, the Mexic-Arte Museum has selected different artists each month to participate in the Changarrito Project.  Artists set up their works of art on the Changarrito cart outside the museum.  All works of art on the cart are for sale and accessible in prices.  One hundred percent of the sales go to the artists and Mexic-Arte purchases one work of art from each artist to accession into their permanent collection.  True to the Mexic-Arte’s mission, the Changarrito is dedicated to the presentation and promotion of contemporary Mexican, Latina/o, and Latin American art.    Los Printmakers de San Anto Collective is comprised of artists Sabrina Alfaro, Crystal Arias, Kayla Littlefield, Amanda Rangel, and Anthony Runblade, all of whom are students finishing up their Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees at The University of Texas at San Antonio.  Drawn together by a common interest in printmaking, these emerging Latina/o often work closely in the studio assisting each other as they experiment with varied printmaking techniques.  Their works often explore issues pertaining to identity and feminist theory while incorporating elements of an increasing transnational culture and contemporary use of technology.   Additionally, the collective gives back to the San Antonio community by creating art at demonstrations and volunteering at various art events for local organizations.  The group was recently featured in the exhibition Print It Up (2014) at R Space, San Antonio, Texas.

My work is a reflection of the many experiences I’ve had as a migrant, immigrant, Latina, mother, and daughter. Like most humans, I have experienced trauma, loss, and
loneliness as well as the intense love of community and family. My art has sought to capture these feelings throughout my life. This retrospective seeks to outline all the different stages that my path as a printmaker has gone throughout the last 22 years.

“Changarrito” is an art vending cart, conceptualized by artist Maximo Gonzalez as an alternative to the official gallery selection presented by the Mexican cultural authorities.  Faithful to their original, informal spirit, Changarritos exist throughout the world, evolving as forums for the sale of original artwork to the general public and presentation of public programs, special curatorial projects, individual and collective exhibitions.    Since 2012, the Mexic-Arte Museum has selected different artists each month to participate in the Changarrito Project.  Artists set up their works of art on the Changarrito cart outside the museum.  All works of art on the cart are for sale and accessible in prices.  One hundred percent of the sales go to the artists and Mexic-Arte purchases one work of art from each artist to accession into their permanent collection.  True to the Mexic-Arte’s mission, the Changarrito is dedicated to the presentation and promotion of contemporary Mexican, Latina/o, and Latin American art.    Los Printmakers de San Anto Collective is comprised of artists Sabrina Alfaro, Crystal Arias, Kayla Littlefield, Amanda Rangel, and Anthony Runblade, all of whom are students finishing up their Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees at The University of Texas at San Antonio.  Drawn together by a common interest in printmaking, these emerging Latina/o often work closely in the studio assisting each other as they experiment with varied printmaking techniques.  Their works often explore issues pertaining to identity and feminist theory while incorporating elements of an increasing transnational culture and contemporary use of technology.   Additionally, the collective gives back to the San Antonio community by creating art at demonstrations and volunteering at various art events for local organizations.  The group was recently featured in the exhibition Print It Up (2014) at R Space, San Antonio, Texas.

NEW: Workshop: Lino Cut Printmaking
Workshop weekends are held once a month on the first Saturdays in our gallery space. Class space is limited. For February, we are celebrating all things print (for PrintAustin 2015)  by hosting a lino cut print making class. The class runs from 1pm-4pm and all materials needed are supplied.
Attendees will be welcomed at the table, walked through the process, have their questions answers, have all tools provided and will leave with up to 10 prints and their custom lino cut “stamp”. This is a great way to create custom cards, little presents for Valentine’s Day and to learn a new skill. Join us! Lite snacks and some drinks will be offered. Sa-Ten Coffeehouse (across the square from us) offer an array of coffee drinks and snacks as well!
